My passion for this work began in my own life.

As I watched my mother’s health decline, I learned firsthand how heavy the responsibility of caregiving can feel — the constant balance between love, duty, and the realities of aging. Yet I also witnessed something beautiful: whenever her private caregiver arrived to take her out of the facility, her entire spirit changed. She laughed. She engaged. She came alive again. In those moments, she wasn’t a patient — she was herself.

That experience showed me that care is not only medical.
It is emotional, social, cultural, and deeply human.
And I realized that if my own mother needed this level of intentional care, other families needed it too.

I have always known the powerful impact that strong, compassionate Black men can bring to caregiving. Their presence offers a unique blend of reassurance, respect, cultural understanding, and emotional steadiness — qualities that our elders deeply connect with, especially those who rarely see themselves reflected in the people responsible for their care. For our community, their involvement is not just meaningful; it is restorative, dignifying, and profoundly necessary.

This became part of the heartbeat behind Joyful Journeys, where we intentionally create space for African American men in caregiving roles while still welcoming all qualified caregivers who are compassionate, committed, and aligned with our mission.

Legacy Haven, while equally driven by excellence, opens its doors widely — focusing on the most qualified individuals from all backgrounds to meet the diverse needs of our seniors and families with dignity and care as well as the young women we connect with and mentor.

Together, both Joyful Journeys and Legacy Haven were built to bring renewal, connection, and dignity to seniors across our community  and the young girls we mentor and to offer guidance, direction, and renewal to young women who, like me at one time, simply need someone to help steady the path beneath their feet.
